Annual Sabarimala Yatra

The Samaj has been organizing an Annual Pilgrimage to Sabarimala for the past 35 years. The trip is usually undertaken on the Day of the Sastha Preethi in the Second Week of December.

There has been a great demand from the members of the public to participate in the pilgrimage, so much so that, some of the current members of the Ayyappa group have been going for over 20 years continuously with the Samaj. During the Mandalam season Koottu Sharanam and Sasthapreethi are conducted at the residences of Ayyappas every week.

Vratham:

Every individual who wishes to undertake the Holy pilgrimage to Sabarimala are required to follow a strict 41-day Vratham. During this Vratham period, the individual abstains from consuming non-vegetarian food, alcoholic drinks, onion and garlic. The individual is required to maintain celibacy in his/her thoughts, actions, speech, sight and sound.

In other words the individual comes out of his/her attachment to the body/material world and is required to devote his all to Lord Ayyappa through namasankeerthanam, pooja and service.

Women between the ages of 10 and 50 years are not allowed in Sabarimala.
